typical consumer in the western world to go weeks at a time without

Benjamin S. Bernanke, in his first ever Federal Open Market Committee meeting led to an increase in the federal funds rate this Tuesday by 25 basis points leading to 4.75 percent. This was the 15th consecutive increase in the federal funds rate leading to a strengthening in the value of the dollar relative to other currencies. Conversely, stocks and bonds dropped as the dollar’s value hit the air.

During a time when it seems like banks are all merging and buying out
smaller banks, Capital One continues to grow.&nbsp; Capital One is
going to be buying out&nbsp; North Fork Bank for approximately $14.6
billion in cash and company stock.&nbsp; This buyout deal will rank
Capital One as one of the top 10 banks in the country.&nbsp; <br>

North Fork bank and Capital One combined will create the sixth largest
depository institution in New York.&nbsp; The deal between these two
corporations was finalized on March 12, 2006.&nbsp; Once the buy out
has completed, the new corporation will have 655 bank branches and over
50 million customer accounts.&nbsp; On March 10th, investors that held
shares in North Fork Bank will receive stock valued at $31.18 per
company share.&nbsp; The new company will also hold $36.6 billion in
deposits.&nbsp; <br>

Prepaid credit cards are new twists on the popularity of plastic
money.&nbsp; The name says it all.&nbsp; They are cards that function
just like credit cards in nearly all aspects, but you have to pay the
spending limit upfront.&nbsp; It’s like a prepaid phone card you can
use to buy anything at all.&nbsp; <br>

There are a lot of benefits to a prepaid credit card, as well as many
different applications for the technology.&nbsp; The most obvious
benefit is that you can’t go over your limit.&nbsp; There is no such
thing as over drafting from an account.&nbsp; When the account is
empty, you simply cannot use the card.&nbsp; You have to refill it
before any more purchases can be made.&nbsp; This is very good for
people who have poor credit history or impulsive spending habits.&nbsp;
